PrestaShop vs Magento: Which One Should You Opt For?
It is a very well known fact that e-commerce has taken off and how! Today, customers rely on it for shopping for, well, pretty much everything — from groceries to camping gear. Also, there’s nothing that e-commerce can’t help you find and buy without needing to even get up from the couch. On that basis alone, it is easy to see why more and more businesses turn to it; with the modern customer being rendered this reliant on the industry, the opportunity here is too fantastic to ignore. But how does one jump in and also grow, especially with this growing competition? Several factors contribute to the success of an e-commerce platform, but none quite as important as the platform upon which you set up your store.
Of course, the market has plenty of e-commerce platforms to offer. However, for the sake of simplifying things, we will restrict this discussion to two of the leading names: Magento and PrestaShop. An advanced but open-source platform, Magneto is an industry veteran and very reliable. On the other hand, we have PrestaShop, another open-source option that promises ease of use and a world of features. So, which one should you choose? Here is a guide to help you decide.
1. Price: While both of them are open-source, you can also use a paid iteration of Magento. There are additional costs to consider as well, including add-ons, themes, hosting, etc. Now, if it is a small to medium scale store, the price will come out to be nearly the same with both the platforms. However, for large scale entities that need comprehensive and advanced solutions, Magento will be better-suited.
2. Market ratings: Magento, as mentioned above, has been around for a while now and, hence, enjoys substantial popularity in the market. But don’t discount PrestaShop just yet — though a comparatively new arrival on the scene, it has managed to garner quite the following as well. However, another thing that does work in Magento’s favour is the fact that even though PrestaShop is quickly gaining it, the former still fields some of the industry’s biggest names.
3. Ease of use: Okay, this one may be a little tricky to decode; let’s start with the back-end interface — both fare equally in this regard. But things get problematic only with installation and configuration — and here, PrestaShop may seem to have the upper hand. But let’s not forget that Magento has recently brought in ample updates and improvements to make things much easier to use.
4. Features: PrestaShop, no doubt, offers every imaginable feature one may need to run a successful e-commerce store. But Magento has a distinct edge in this department, offering an extensive library of run-of-the-mill features and functionalities and other such as reporting, analytics, etc.
Based on this comparison, we wouldn’t be surprised if you have already googled PrestaShop Magento migration. However, we will still recommend taking your time to carefully evaluate the options, your business’ requirements and more before you make the final decision.
